BMW's iconic X5 midsize luxury Sports Activity Vehicle is now in its fourth generation; after debuting way back in 1999, it's ascended into a new level of capability, premium comfort, and excellence in versatility.

It's hard not to be excited about the all-new 2019 model, but we do have a few more months to go before we officially see it in the metal here at BMW of Southpoint.

The Boss

The newest iteration of the iconic BMW X5 will look and feel similar to the last-gen model, but will be built on BMW's new CLAR (cluster architecture--it's more advanced than it sounds) platform. The new platform will add about 1.1 inches to the length, 2.6 inches to the width, and about an inch to the height of the all-new 2019 X5, which should increase both passenger and cargo volumes, though probably not by much.

General engine options stay the same in the new 2019 BMW X5, offering a 3.0-liter turbo six and a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, but both powertrains will offer more horsepower than the previous generation.

At the moment, the 2019 BMW X5 is available exclusively with xDrive all-wheel drive--which has been common with launch SAVs and SACs lately--but a rear-wheel-drive sDrive X5 variant will be likely available sometime next year.

We can expect The Boss to arrive in Durham in the fall of 2018--likely in November.
