BMW Electric Car Charging Information: Charging Levels

As mentioned, the main difference between traditional combustion-powered vehicles and electric vehicles like the BMW iX is their fuel source. Instead of using gas, EVs use battery packs and electricity to power your Raleigh drives, saving you on fuel costs and reducing your overall emissions. To recover your battery power and driving range, drivers need to charge their BMW EV batteries. Currently, there are three main methods of BMW EV home charging and public charging available:

  • Level 1 Charging: Level 1 charging is one of the most accessible forms of charging, though it is also the slowest. Using a standard 120-volt household outlet, your EV can charge at nearly any plug for an estimated range of four miles per hour of charging.
  • Level 2 Charging: Level 2 charging can be found at home and public charging stations and, depending on the wattage, can offer up to 30 miles of range in one hour. Level 2 charging methods vary the most and can be utilized through 240-volt industrial outlets, professionally installed Level 2 wall chargers, or at selected public EV charging areas.
  • Level 3 Charging/DC Fast Charging: Level 3 charging, also known as DC Fast Charging, is the fastest EV charging method, with some chargers able to add up to 90 miles of range in as little as 10 minutes. DC Fast Charging can only be found at public charging stations, and wattage may vary.
