You lead a busy life in Raleigh; having an understanding of how much time should be allotted for certain service tasks can help you plan your day effectively. So, when your oil service warning light pops up, how long does an oil change take? Generally, an oil change at an authorized dealership should take no longer than one hour. How Long Should an Oil Change Take at Home?

Some Cary drivers prefer to take care of certain maintenance items at home. If that’s you, how long should an oil change take when performed on your own? Well, it depends on your experience with DIY maintenance. If you’ve done at-home oil changes before, you’ll probably only need about an hour to complete it. If this is your first time changing oil by yourself, you’ll probably want to allot at least a couple of hours.

Remember, when changing oil at home you will need the proper grade of oil for your vehicle, an OEM oil filter, a new oil filter gasket, a rubber mallet, oil filter wrenches, a car jack, and wheel blocks. If you don’t already have all of this on hand, it may be less time-consuming and less costly to have your oil changed at a dealership service center such as the one here at BMW of Southpoint.

Some cars can even last up to 10,000 miles between oil services. We recommend checking your owner’s manual for an exact interval.
